Kettlebell Training

If you’ve read through any fitness publication over the past 12 months, you will have noticed that many of them have mentioned kettlebells. Many saying that Kettlebells are the 'new way to get fit'.
Whilst they seem to be taking the UK by storm, they are nothing new. they originate in Russia and have been around since the 1700's. The simplest way to describe a Kettlebell is a cannonball with a handle.
They have been used throughout history by athletes and strongmen alike. Until a few years ago they where the fitness industry's best kept secret.
Kettlebell or Cardio ?
Traditional forms of cardio such as running on a treadmill or on the cross-trainer, are about as exciting as watching paint dry for many people. Let's face it, one of the main reasons why people give up on cardio is because they do not know what other forms of exercise to do to get fit or lose weight. With regular cardio you only burn calories after workout for 1-2 hours. When doing kettlebells, you only need to workout 20-30 minutes with them to get results. You will not only stay challenged and motivated, you will also burn off more calories (approx 800) and also keep burning calories up to 3-4 hours post workout!
When training with kettlebells you can train the entire body with very few exercises.
An example kettlebell training programme to develop cardio fitness might look like this...
-
Turkish Get Ups x 3 each
-
2 Arm Swings x 10
-
Windmills x 3 each
-
Front Squats x 10
-
Military Press x 5 each
Kettlebells help you engage your core during every exercise.
Unlike most traditional exercises, kettlebell training will help you engage your core muscles. Unlike a dumbbell or barbell, the kettlebells' centre of mass is offset from the handle. This means the weight constantly pulls against your hand and requires not only strength and co-ordination when exercising with it, but also the recruitment of other muscles through your arms, shoulders and core stabiliser muscles.
Anyone can benefit from a regular kettlebell workout. From those who just want to be fit and healthy or for those who want to reduce injury and move more efficiently for everyday living. A kettlebell workout will develop your all-important body core stabiliser muscles - those that help your trunk to become strong to prevent back pain.
