Weight Loss

There is no secret to weight loss. It's all about eating the right foods and exercising. Calories in - Calories out.

Research suggests that  the best way to burn calories is combining high intensity aerobic exercise with a weight training programme.

High intensity aerobic exercise helps to keep your metabolism revved-up long after your work out ends. If you are simply slogging away on the treadmill  or cross trainer your calorie burning will stop shortly after you jump off it.

Of course, high intensity exercise for one individual could represent low intensity for another. For example, walking at 6km/h for an unconditioned individual may seem a tough workout (high intensity). Whereas, for a fit athlete, running at 10km/h may represent a low intensity workout.

Adding aerobic exercise to your weight loss programme will help burn the calories but can lead to some muscle wastage if done exclusively.

Weight training will help build lean muscle and increase your metabolic rate. More muscle means more calories burnt. Adding 1kg (2 pounds) of muscle burns an extra 65 calories a day.

Exercise is only part of losing weight.

How many times have you gone on a diet or tried one of the fad diets claiming to help you lose 'x' amount of pounds in 'x' amount of days/weeks? You start the diet, lose weight and then the weight all piles back on when you come off the diet. The simple fact is you have got to look at the foods you are eating and start choosing the right foods to help you lose weight and keep it off!
